Dr Shaokun MA

Dr Ma obtained his PhD from Tongji Univeristy in 2008, and then came to HKUST as a post-doctoral fellow under Prof. Ng.

After his post-doc, he became a professor of geotechnical engineering at Guangxi University. There, he is also head of the department of Geotechnical and Underground Engineering and secretary general of the Guangxi society for rock mechanics and engineering. He may currently be found at the University of Newcastle in Australia where he is a visiting professor.

Dr Zhen-Dong Cui

Prof. Dr. Zhen-Dong Cui is the Dean of Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology. In July 2008, he obtained his PhD from the School of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He was then a postdoctoral research fellow in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for one year from July 2008 to Aug 2009.

Dr Yifei CUI

Dr Xunwen CHEN

After earning his BEng in Environmental Engineering and MPhil in Biology, Dr Chen further studied a PhD in HKUST, working on an inter-disciplinary topic considering the interaction of plant, microbe and soil in man-made ecosystems.

Dr Junjun NI

Dr. Ni Junjun received his doctoral degree in 2017. During his Ph.D. study, his research was about the application of vegetation on slope stability and landfill cover.His research revealed the importance of hydrological reinforcement of plants  on slope stability considering the effects of planting spacing and mixed plant types.

Dr. James WONG

Dr. James Wong received his doctoral degree in 2017 based on an interdisciplinary (ecology and geotechnical engineering) study: “ The effects of biochar on bacterial communities and geotechnical properties of landfill cover soils”.
